Estonian Passport/ID Card Renewal Process

For those whose

  1. Wish to renew their documents themselves, and
  2. Whose fingerprints were taken less than 5 years ago, and
  3. Prefer to do it in English

read on...otherwise please contact the Embassy to see if you need to be re-fingerprinted either in Canberra or at an up-coming passport mission.

Use the the Politsei.pp Self Service Portal (use of ID card is required)

  2. Download the application the form here...
    Ideally, fill it out digitally on a computer and save as a PDF file. If not, then print blank form and complete by hand.
  3. Completing the application form
    • Use your 11 digit Estonian personal code where it asks for Date of Birth.
    • The Document needed as being Travel document
    • Place of Issue as being “Melbourne” or whatever city you wish to pick up in where there is an Estonian Honorary Consul or Embassy.
    • Nationality is the country where you were born e.g. “Australia” or “Estonia".
    • Citizenship will be “Estonian”.
  4. Digital photos
    • Have your new digital passport photo taken. Photos MUST be digital/electronic format. Paper based photos are not accepted. Old photos must not be used.
    • Use Officeworks - they understand the Estonian/EU standard. Generally, Australia Post does not.
    • Have them to send it to you digitally by email or provided to you on a USB stick.
    • Minimum 1300 x 1600 pixels 1MB but no bigger than 5MB .JPG format file.

  5. Payment
    Make your 40 Euro (or 50 Euro if together with ID card application) payment to one of the following Estonian banks

    Your payment description must include
    Your full name AND your Estonian 11 digit personal ID number (not passport number)

    Keep a copy of the payment receipt.
    If your bank sets a limit of $100 minimum, strongly consider using TransferWise instead of your bank. TransferWise exchange rate is more competitive than the banks!
  6. Sending the application
    1. If you do have access to your valid Estonian ID card and can use the PIN codes…

      • completed application form
      • digital passport photo JPG format
      • scanned separate picture of your signature; JPG format, Minimum 200 x 600 pixels
      • scanned proof of payment receipt
      Ensure the Subject of the email is
      Passport/ID Application - Your Full Name - 11 digit personal code

      OR

    2. If you do not have access to a valid Estonian digital ID card and/or cannot use the PIN codes, then you need to send the following by regular postal mail
      • completed application form with your signature strictly in black and within the top right hand box.
        (if outside in any way, your application will be rejected)

Allow 4-6 weeks for turnaround time.
The Embassy or Honorary Consul that you nominated in your application form will contact you when your document(s) are ready to be picked up.
